Together, the Hamtramck Parks Conservancy (HPC) and Yemen Cafe collaborated to design a public patio space intended to benefit cafe customers and park visitors alike.  An agreement between the City of Hamtramck, the HPC, and Yemen Cafe allowed for the design, funding, and plan for future maintenance.  The project features two concrete-paved patios with cafe seating, string lighting, connective walkways, trash receptacles, and landscaping, including flowering ornamental trees, perennials, and evergreen shrubs.  The patio will be located on the western side of Veterans Park, on the area south of Yemen Cafe and north of the existing sidewalk and the Veterans Memorial.

Construction kicked off this week with selective tree removal, soil sampling, and grading.  Patio construction is expected to be complete by mid-December, with a projected opening in the Spring.

This patio is one of many planned park improvements.  Here’s to it becoming the go-to spot for relaxation and socializing- a place for parents/guardians can keep an eye on their kids at Zatkoff Playground, while enjoying a meal from Yemen Cafe.  More updates to come!
